Noteedit

elvielell Noteedit is a music scoring program for Linux/GNU. Noteedit also plays music written with it as a midi, with a variety of instruments available.

Clef,Time signatures, and Key signatures

Adding clefs with noteedit is made very easy, with the only thing required is clicking on the clef icon located in the toolbar. After choosing the clef, clicking on the desired staff adds it.

Time signatures are added in the same way. However, you may create custom time signatures, and do not have to work with only the premade time signatures.

The key signature is added in the same way as the clef, simply choose the key and add it to the desired staff.

If a mistake is made, these are all easily erased by simply selecting the note and hitting the backspace or delete key, depending which direction it's in.

You can add another staff under the staff menu.

Natural notes and rests

Adding natural notes is very simple with noteedit. Choose the desired type of note from the toolbar, and click on the staff where you wish the note to be located. The note will then appear on the staff. Right clicking produces a rest rather than a note, equal in length to the note selected. Also on the toolbar is a tool that lets you choose which way to have the stems face. Choosing one of the two makes all notes face that way, or you can switch to have it the opposite way. You can also select individual notes by clicking on them and switching stem direction.

Accidentals, dotted notes, and triplets

Sharps are very easy, all that's required is selecting a type of note, and click the sharp. Then, clicking the place you want it located on the staff, it will be there, sharp. However, after the accidental is placed, you must reselect the sharp button to add another one. Flats work the same way, along with natural notes. Double flats, double sharps, dotted notes, and double dotted notes all operate in the same manner. Triplets are also added this way.

Expression marks, ties, bars,and slurs

If you want to add these to notes, you do the same thing that you do for accidentals. However, some of these will stay, such as ties, expression marks, and slurs.

Repeats, and other note writing styles.

Repeats are added in the same manner as notes. Other note styles operate like accidentals.

Playing as and exporting as a MIDI

Click the play button on the tool bar and it will be played as a MIDI. Under the export menu you can export as a MIDI.
