When I travel
to the market, I am
greeted by the shopkeepers, even if I do not buy anything. If
I
look at anybody, they will greet me. I know that this is
because
I am the village head, but I still find it strange. Today as
I as
I arrived at the market, I noticed something was amiss. I
looked towards a village resident and asked "Why is the market missing
all the farmers?"
"All the farmers are helping this
new farmer to
get his crops planted. They probably won't be at the market
until
tomorrow."
I thanked the man and went to the
butcher, as my supply on meat was
low. I bought as much meat as I could carry, and
began to
travel home.
On my way home, I saw a tree that I had
always liked. It was a tree
similar to a bonsai, but full size.
I had first seen in it when I first became the village head.
I remembered the bandits who leaped out from behind it, fully
armed.
I went on and bumped into a farmer
returning from the fields.
"I'm sorry, I
didn't see you there,"
the farmer said
"It's fine, I was distracted by that
tree
anyway. So you got this new farmer all set up?"
"Yes, he'll be fine. I left
early
because I need to get home and tend to my own animals."
"Alright then, see you around."
I
left and traveled
on, almost to my house. My house was not normal, as it was
only
big enough for a human the size of a cat. I rolled inside,
and
decided to go to sleep. Traveling when you're just a head can
be
very tiring.
I woke up the next morning, and rolled
out of
bed.
I put on my eye patch and hat, and went out and tended to my
garden. I did this for many hours, until I eventually got
tired
and went back inside. The wizard who would give me an
enchanted
body would get here soon. I pulled myself up to the table
with a
special slide given to me by a friend, and sat there reading until the
wizard arrived.
The wizard finally arrived, and walked
in,
dragging a
headless mannequin. "Hello there, this is your body."
he said. He
picked me up, and put me in the spot where the head would have been on
the mannequin. He sat down and took out a few runes, and
began
chanting. The last word of his chant was union, and he sprung
up
and threw his hands towards me, with lightning emitting from them.
The mannequin was hit along with me, and we had the lightning
flowing around us. I felt no pain, but the
lightning
stopped, and I fell to the floor, attached to the mannequin.
"Very well, the spell is done, I'll take my leave of you."
"Wait. Your payment."
I stood up with my
new wooden
body and walked over to where I kept my purse and took 50 golden coins
out. I walked over to the wizard and thanked him. I
was
able to feel and move again. I decided to fully test out my
body
after a night's sleep, as I was feeling sleepy. I laid down and went to
sleep.
The next morning I awoke, and stood up
for
the first time
in many years. I walked outside and began to walk towards the
village. I walked quite a bit when I saw a fire to the left
of
the path, at a farmers cottage. I started running towards it,
another thing I haven't done for years. I stopped at the
cottage
and looked upon the small structure burning. A man
crashed
through the door, and toppled to my feet. "My daughter's
still in
there!" the man said as he fainted.
Kicking the man
to the side, I charged into the burning cottage.
I looked
around for his daughter in this
main room, and
saw nobody. I ran towards the back room, and tried to open
the
door but it was locked. I kicked the door a few
times, but
it would not open. I grabbed a stone table and
threw it at
the door with surprisingly very little effort. The table
smashed
the door to pieces, and I charged into the room after it. I
grabbed the man's daughter, who also had fainted.
I threw myself
through the window in the main room, and landed by the fainted man.
I grabbed both the man's daughter and the man and began to
carry
them towards town.
I finally arrived in town, and went
straight
for the
sheriff's office. The man had awoken on the journey, and had
taken over carrying his daughter. Throughout
the entire journey the man only said
"Thank you." I opened the
door and
let the man go in. I noticed a smell of burning wood, coming
from
the ground. My eyes traveled to my feet, and I saw that my
foot
was on fire. I tried to beat it out, but the fire quickly
spread
to the rest of my body.
I finally pulled my head off, and threw
it through the window of the sheriffs office.
I hit the window
rather hard, and fell to the ground, knocked out.
I probably
should have made sure the shutters were open first.
I awoke in the towns square. I
would have to seek
out the wizard some other day for yet another body. But I had
been through enough action today, so I was just going to rest.
